The 9 to 5 switch
Over the past little while I have been thinking about making the switch from freelance work to an office position. Freelance has been a lot of fun but I have been looking for something different. I have been looking around the past few weeks for local positions, and as of this week I have actually started work for a central Alberta design company called Idea Market. I am excited to start working with the team there and contributing what I have to offer to their success.
Currently I won’t be taking on new freelance clients so I can focus on the new position, but I am still happy to help with any questions or concerns. Any of my current clients are still welcome to contact me as well, and I can try and help out as best that I can.
Thank you to everyone that has worked with me in the past, maybe one day I will be back to the freelance grind, but in the meantime I appreciate everyone’s understanding!
Open for business: Looking for new freelance clients!
Well I suppose its that time! School is out of the way, everything is in place, it’s time to hit the ground running.
I’m now taking on any new work thrown my way that you might think falls in my area of expertise! For the most part anything from print design to web design and front end development will work best. I can help you with Joomla and Wordpress as well if you want to go that route. I work mostly with accessible, standards based XHTML and CSS, with a little bit of Php and Javascript (jQuery) tossed into the mix. That said it doesnt mean you can’t try me at any other little project you might have! If you like the way I do things be sure to send me an email so we can talk possibilities!
I like working with clients big and small, in a personal and down to earth kind of way. Don’t hesitate to atleast say hi, what do you have to lose!
Why All Designers Should Use Twitter (Updated!)
So there’s another article I wanted to post here because it also reflects something I have been talking to a lot of people about lately: the importance of networking tools, Twitter in particular, in our creative industry.
What I have been trying to stress is that Twitter is used in two ways. It’s used by people that post useless things about their day to do life that, as many say, no one cares about. That’s a given, and why Twitter has been given a lame vibe in some cases. On the other hand, Twitter is used in another way. It is used in many industries, but mainly the creative industry to do things like network, market, learn, share ideas, collaborate, promote, etc. The list really goes on. (more…)
10 Things They Don’t Teach You In Design School
So lately I have been talking a lot about how the important things to know about the design industry aren’t usually taught in school. It would have been a good post to write, and may still happen in the future, but in the meantime Mirko Humbert over at Design Reviver has done a good job of covering some important points.
It is a good read for sure with very valid information and I suggest that you head over there and read it, and if anyone wants to talk more about this subject and these ideas let me know!
Welcome to the brand new blogfolio
I’ve spent the last few days finishing up Graemeduckett.com to be able to share a little more of a personal look at who I am and what I do! I want to welcome you to the new site and urge you to browse it all, but most importantly I would love to hear what you think as far as comments and suggestions go! I’m fairly new on the scene and want to hit the ground running. It’s important to me to know what you like so I know how to make you happy!
